This picture was taken at our church Valentines Banquet last Saturday night. We had a great time with our friends and were very happy to spend time with Dr. Jack and Cathy Klem since they will be moving up to NBBC this summer!
In preparation for Michael's colonoscopy tomorrow morning, he was allowed to eat breakfast this morning and only clear liquids after that. He woke up feeling sick, but tried to eat something since he knew he wouldn't be able to eat anything for atleast 24 hours. Just a few bites of scrambled eggs and part of a roll is all he could handle. Since he had this same procedure done a couple of years ago, he knew a little more what to anticipate this time around. Following breakfast, he started to work on a 10 oz. bottle of grape flavored magnesium citrate oral solution. I tasted this stuff just becuase I wanted to see what he was going through and it is disgustingly awful. I can't imagine having to drink it when feeling well, let alone while having a sick stomach! He diluted it quite a bit and was working on it small sips at a time, but he just couldn't keep it down.
He has had a difficult day and is physically drained and so weak. His doctor told him that he didn't have to finish the magnesium citrate but instead to try taking 527 grams of miraLAX. I admit that I have no medical training, but on the miraLAX bottle it states: relieves occasional constipation/ softens stools. One dose is a single capful and the doc ordered him to take the whole bottle of it. I understand that they are trying to clean out his system, but he has nothing in his system after being sick all day long! Thankfully, this stuff is a little bit more tolerable he said. I didn't try this. Afterall, it is a laxative and I don't need to be up all night too! So he took 1/4 of what the doctor has ordered before getting sick to his stomach again. I'm pretty sure that he has suceeded in emptying his system for tomorrow's procedure.
We are praying that his strength will return quickly and that the colonoscopy reveals the source of the bleeding. We appreciate your prayers as well, not only for his procedure in the morning, but also that he would be able to get a good night's rest.
