This week I decided that it was time for first haircuts. Elliot was developing a rat tail and that had to go! I've never taken scissors to Emma's hair until tonight, and I'm still kinda sad that I did! I just trimmed the ends straight across, but since it has some wave to it, it seems so short and "big-girlish". Where has my baby gone?! The following sequence of pictures were taken tonight as we celebrated my birthday. It was a couple of weeks ago, but we never had a birthday cake or celebrated on that day since we were away on a trip. Emma has been pretty confused about how I could have a birthday without having a cake, so Michael asked me to make a cake so that he could decorate it with Emma for me. She was so excited about today's events that she could hardly sleep last night. A girl after mommy's own heart!! Daddy took her shopping today for presents and we decorated the dining room with balloons and streamers while she napped. When she woke up, she came in the dining room with eyes twinkling and exclaimed "this is cool...how 'mazin!!"
Who would have ever thought I'd be hanging balloons and streamers for my own birthday for the sake of a little girl?!? The pictures are in reverse order...

Can't believe he will be ONE in June!
This is the newest face of Elliot. Meet the scrunched nose. He also snorts after making this face. It's hilarious and we have no idea where he got it from.

You can see the excitement all over Emma's face!
Emma put most of the candles in the cake by herself.

It's official now that we've celebrated with balloons, streamers, cake and presents :)
Frosting the cake with Daddy!
We had a fun party- starting with one of our favorite meals: roast, potatoes, carrots, gravy and banana bread. Michael and Emma gave me some special gifts: Ralph Lauren Romance Perfume, some crest premium whitening strips and a big bag of M&M's. (and for those of you thinking the whitening strips were an insulting gift, I asked for them :)
The highlight of the evening: We were eating dinner and Emma reached out and asked Michael to hold her hand then asked the same of me. She looked at Michael and said "Daddy, I love you." then looked at me and said "Mommy, I love you". Then burst into singing "Away in the Manger". Precious!

First, I love her hair! It looks so cute! Second, I just burst into laughter at the end of your post--I wish I could see that on video :)
That is so sweet! It looks like Emma really enjoyed having the party for you!
You are a wonderful Mom and wife. I love reading all the things you do with the kids. They will always remember these special times!
