This morning I left the house bright and early to do some shopping, leaving behind my sleeping sweet husband to watch our darling little children. All was quiet when I made my escape. A little later on, I was informed that the "darlings" woke up right after I left- around 7:10am. That's early for us...so much for a lazy morning for this household.
We love Saturdays. It means a big, hot homemade breakfast, family fun, walks to the park, and (usually) no cleaning or laundry day. Today was not the norm for our fun day, but I heard that Harris Teeter is doing triple coupons this whole week, and wanted to finish getting the kid's accesories for their Easter clothes.
So we missed our big yummy homemade breakfast together, but I'll make up for it because we are going to have breakfast for dinner tonight: waffles, ham, scrambled eggs, hash browns, baked oatmeal & fruit.
I got a lot accomplished in the few hours out alone. What a difference it makes not having two little ones to buckle in, correct, feed, change diapers etc.! I was able to make several quick stops- which would have been looonng stops with big E and little E.
Emma was very excited when I got home. I think she thought we were going to be celebrating my birthday again :) Here are the deals I was able to snag from triple coupon week at Harris Teeter:
6 Cans Grands Biscuits
2 Sargento 8 oz. Cheese
4 Packages of Totinos Pizza Rolls (40 count)
Mustard
Mayo
2 packages of Muellers pasta
Dawn dish soap
5 boxes of trash bags
2 50 count ziploc sandwich bags
2 febreze air freshners
1 colgate toothpaste
1 Magic Eraser
1 bag Rold Gold honey twists
1 Sweet Sue chicken pouch
1 blistex
=
$17 total
{this averages out to $ .54 for each item ~ what a steal!}
[and I almost forgot to include: 1 Krispy Kreme doughnut, not pictured above]
The cashier there was very kind to me. The store I went to had some sort of ordering problem with the pizza rolls so they gave me the bags of 40 for the same deal they had running for a box of 15. I didn't expect that at all! She also made sure that I got the instant $4 off for buying 10 qualifying items (4 were the pizza rolls). It was a much more pleasant experience than the Kmart fiasco a while ago :)
Then I hit a few more stores, mainly to look for tights, a hairbow to match Emma's Easter dress & dress socks for Elliot's snazzy outfit.
There is a really nice children's boutique in Suffolk- LuAnn's for Kids- that has all sorts of pretty smocked dresses (that I like to look at, but can't afford). That's where I get a lot of Emma's hairbows, though. Surprisingly, I didn't find a bow to match her dress there today, but they had one basket of dress socks marked 75% off. And wouldn'tchaknow, there was ONE pair in Elliot's size, the exact color that I needed- for .98cents! It was kinda funny when I looked around and saw all the well-to-do grandparents in there, splurging for their much loved little ones, and I purchase a measely pair of socks :)
Off to a consignment store right across the street. I went in there the other day just to see what is involved in selling some of the kid's clothes for them to consign and noticed they had a small selection of bows. And wouldn'tchaknow again, there was ONE bow that matched Emma's dress perfectly, but it didn't have a price tag on it. All the other ones were marked for $4.50-6.50, so I figured that would be the price. And I am all about bows for Emma, so I would've paid that much. But the lady must have been in a good mood (or she just thought I was super nice because she talked to me F.O.R.E.V.E.R. about her current health issues), because she sold me the bow for $1!
Small little blessings that the Lord gives to us and brings a smile to my heart !!
And you'll get to see pictures of the kids in their Easter attire soon, so stay posted for the appearance of the bow and dress socks :)
