"Who was your teacher today, Emma?"
"Mrs. Cathy. Mrs. Cathy was my teacher."
"And what did Mrs. Cathy teach you today?"
"She said, 'Did you bring your Bible, Emma?' and I said, No, my Bible is at home." (disappointment obvious in her voice as she trails off)
Emma has several "bibles"- none of which I have thought to have her bring to church with her for whatever reason...Michael gave her a little green Gideon Bible today as she sat for lunch and she thought it was the most special thing. She was elated. She often pretends her other story books are her "bible" and so Michael explained to her the other day how the Bible is an important and special book- more than any other book! That little green Bible stayed right by her side during her whole meal and she kept talking about how special it was and asking us to read it to her.
At the end of her meal, she blessed us with a little Bible story (the page she was "reading" was the index) that went something like this...
"OK guys. Listen to this Bible story I'm going to tell you. It's berry important and berry special. It's about Jesus and He died on the cross for you sins. OK. Once upon a time Jesus lived in the hundred acre woods... and saw Pooh, and Piglet..."
Michael looked at me and commented: Seems like we have some work to do!
