surgery day...

i found this picture on michael's laptop...how cute is she?!!
We arrived at UVA at 7:00 this morning. Surgery prep was busy and seemed to be quick. Michael was joking around, making me and the nurses laugh as they colored on his stomach and gave him a sweet robe and an oompa-loompa-like hair net. I did take pictures, but have been warned not to post them...hehehe... He was wheeled away a little before 9:00am and surgery started soon after. He was confident and calm, an obvious working of God's comforting strength in his life.

A little after 11:00,
Dr. Friel called to let me know the surgery went smooth and he was about to head to recovery. His exact words were "I am almost one hundred percent sure that it's colitis, not crohns." That would be a wonderful answer to prayer as the surgeries would be curative and that he would be able to live a normal healthy active lifestyle.

During surgery prep this morning, Michael was given an epidural for pain management post-op. Unfortunately, it didn't work and the risks involved with it interacting with his blood clotting meds are too risky. Unfortunately that means when his surgery pain meds start weaning off, he will really start to deal with some intense pain. The next few hours will be difficult, most likely, as the nurses try to figure out how to manage his pain.

Right now he is resting. Occasionally snoring~which is a good sign that he is getting some good rest, although in pain.

We are in Room 5148A. It's a shared room, so that is interesting. I have a chair that reclines a little bit. Tonight I'll be here since it will be tough.

Specific ways to pray:
*Michael hasn't eaten since Sunday night and won't be able to eat anything for a few days. He was on an all liquid diet for surgery prep yesterday and has not had anything to drink today. Tomorrow he may be able to have a few ice chips.
*Pain management
*Good rest
