We had high hopes of finding fewer spots on Elliot when he woke up this morning, but we discovered instead that the rash had spread even more down his legs and arms and his face was completely covered. Poor kid looked horrible, and by the sounds of it, he must have felt horrible, too.
He was seen this afternoon and the Doctor confirmed him having Roseola, but with an acute rash. His thoughts were that Elliot has had a hypersensitivity/ allergic response to the virus itself- causing him to have a much more aggresive rash uncommon of Roseola. Since he has been on Benedryll for a few days and it has not helped reduce the rash at all, the Doc put him on prednisone for 5 days in hopes to get rid of it. You can imagine the immediate concern I had when the Dr. mentioned "prednisone" since Michael has been on that for months and had a lot of nasty side effects from it. But he assured me that the dosage is so low and that just being on it for five days will not bring any negative side effects.
Elliot isn't contagious, but he is still pretty cranky and not had much of an appetite. We've seen an entirely different side to the little guy these past few days and eagerly anticipate the return of our sweet boy. Thankfully that benedryll helps him sleep well! We appreciate your prayers and concerns :)
I'm about five weeks away from the due date and everything seems healthy and well according to this morning's baby appointment. We get to have a quick ultrasound August 5th with my midwife to check on baby Ethan. That will be fun for us- we didn't ever have ultrasounds past the 20 week mark with either of the other kids! By the way I've been feeling, I'm pretty confident that we can expect to view a very scrunched baby in there :)
