This is a close up of the rash on Elliot's tummy. A few days ago when he had the high temp with no other symptoms, it didn't occur to me to consider roseola. Until the fever completely disappeared and a faint rash started to show up. A few hours after spotting the first spots, they became much more obvious and spread everywhere on his little body~much to the dismay and discomfort of Elliot! I asked the Doctor about it possibly being roseola when we were at our visit yesterday~ which she did say could be a possibility but did not give a definite diagnosis. Roseola is an "unharmful" (or, so they say...but I can vouch for several harmful effects of this virus including sleep deprivation, stress and confusion) virus that causes a high temp for several days, followed by the sudden absence of the fever and a rash that almost immediately procedes it and lasts for several days. The rash usually appears on the trunk first and then spreads. It is uncommon for it to effect the head and face. Elliot's rash began on his diaper area and face and is all over his head. And it obviously itches because he has been scratching non-stop at his sweet face. Emma had roseola when she was 9 months old. I found a picture of her broken out in the rash, and it looks strikingly similar to what Elliot looks like.
Emma at 9 months old with Roseola. She had even higher temps than Elliot and was very fussy until the fever broke after a few days. The rash didn't seem to bother her at all, unlike Elliot.
I wonder if there is something that makes our kids more suseptable to getting roseola?! I should warn Ethan...
All this to say, although Elliot still seems to be miserable, we think he has roseola and that means the worst is probably over for him. We are expecting a happy return of Elliot very soon :)
